The First Fragmentos Vase
This was the first vase I made in the Fragmentos series.
I was working at a beach house during the pandemic when I started experimenting with this idea. I had brought clay with me so I could continue making, and one day I found myself with a piece that had become too dry to work with.
Instead of throwing it away, I started breaking it apart.
I began placing the little pieces onto a vase I had originally intended to finish with my Corales texture. As I worked, I realized I loved what was happening. The individual fragments created a completely different surface—irregular, tactile, and full of movement.
I didn't know it at the time, but this experiment became the beginning of Fragmentos.
Sometimes the best ideas happen when something doesn't go according to plan.
